This is a report from the 1969 Convention at the De Montford Hall .
I was not there as my father would not let me go on the bus, something to do with being 4 years old I think!!!!!
Hope this clears a few puzzles up and brings back some memories.

thank you, Mr Holmes!

Must read tonite. So both Luuk and I prove being 60 and over kills
a lot of memory brain cells! I forgot Loving You, Luuk forgot the 68 tv show...
Old geezers we are. Still not clear why my bro and I decided to travell to France
by train ( a slow one back in those days...) , sleep in a fleabag Hotel, just to see
Loving You, 3 years after we'd seen it in Leicester!?

Weird! th_icon_confused1.gif

Great seeing this article!
Do you by any chance also have and if yes are able to scan the letter from Lynn H. Morrey which must be in an Elvis monthly late 1970 or early 1971 about her trip to Versailles/Paris?

Proven that people forget details about events they attended, I am surprised the MM always remembers every word Elvis said and everything he did. They must be superhuman.

Not really. I guess last 3 months of 1970 and first 3 months of 1971.
I would really love a scan of it if you can find it.

Good old Dave Kaye. I bought the In My Way single which I still have. Anyone interested in hearing it, this, and a number of other tracks by him are on youtube.

Hi Jim - I haven't been posting anything lately but I found your thread real interesting. I was like you not at primary school so didn't make it there. I have a lot of OEPFC and IEPAS materials that I've collected through the years. I posted the pages to the 1969 Convention programme. I thought this might be of some interest and add some background to your thread. Hope you don't mind me doing this.

All the best

Harry

good to have you back here, Harry!

The 68 tv Show is not mentioned in the programme, but
Peter Aldersley made it clear in the Monthly it was shown
that day! A late addition to the line up that day
I reckon?! I seem to remember the colonel was responsible
for having the tv show in Leicester that afternoon. He and
Slaughter had excellent connections...

When was the Taped Elvis Message to the Fans at The Montford
played? 1968, '69 ?
The 20-30 seconds 'message', at one time, in either the late 80s or
90s went up for sale. I made a bid. Not high enough though. But the
person selling was prepared to make me a cassette copy from the original
tape for 25 pounds...I have used it on one of my cds...but can't remember
which one? Or perhaps I lend it out to another Dutch label at the time?
Did Todd re-re-leased it on one of his flexi records that was attached to a copy
of his 'special' fanclub mags?! Clouded memories...?

And in defence of the colonel...If he wouldn't have had put a micro in Elvis'
hands at the time to record the message ( on a filmset) for his UK fans,
nothing would have ever been done by Elvishimselvis!!
Let's not forget that ever!

Hi Jim - Thanks - I have a lot of time for those people posting paper items from Elvis lifetime - Reading it as it happened is so much better than retrospective hindsight - though most of the latter works are better researched with far more detail and background. I love the enthusiasm of those of the day.

Jim I've added another publication OEPFC fan mag report of this convention. There is a page of pictures and Glasgow's own Rockin' Elvis Fan Club is pictured in the center. The club's still going strong - Now called 'The Elvis Touch'

I have looked at EM from June 1970 - June 1972 and can't see the letter mentioned. Would it be about the 1971 OEPFC Convention in Paris?

Ger - A couple of things for you - I've posted a 1969 fan club magazine reporting on this Convention and there is an explanation as to how the 68 TV Show was obtained and screened.

Not really one for I Gotta Know - but I've put a scan of the flexi that Todd released - it came attached to an issue of his Collectors Magazine.

All the best

Harry

more spinweb removed from my brain. Thanks, Harry!!
No help from Parker on screening the tv show at that time...Im surprised!

The message ( as seen on the flexi label) is from 1964?!
It wasn't done for the Montford Convention?! Was the message made for
the readers/editors of one of the UK pop papers? Disc?? Saying thanks for
winning the poll for best male singer, worlwide????

I was doing Elvis stuff 24/7 at the time, things have become 'clouded' after all
this time. Collectors often have to tell me what vinyl & cd titles I did...
Thanks for cleaning up my mistakes, Harry.

Do you happen to have any good 74 candids you can post on I Gotta
Know?! So many 70s fans, so few ever post pix from their fave years.

By the way, when you scroll back on this thread, you'll find somebody
beat you to posting the 69 ticket.... But it's the thought that counts,
so thanks for contributing here. It's mucho appreciated!

you're right!
It's on page 2 of 'Live At The International...1969' topic, elsewhere on this index page.
Sometimes, with so many topics featured here, it gets a bit confusing!

You're in Elvis In Art as well?! Kool. We're both famous! : ) Have to check it out, that is, if I
can find my copy!? Your 74 adventures can make a great topic. Your story, the show(s),
Vegas? Many here, including me, love to see in-depth coverage, fully illustrated when you
feel like it? Give it a thought.

PS: on page 3 of I Gotta Know there's 3 topics by me that have my cartoons
featured. Not just Elvis...Some weird stuff as well...!
All 3 topics feature 'cartoons' in their title. Shouldn't be too hard finding them.

Found my copy of the 'Elvis In Art' book this morning. Hadn't touched it for ages.
Found your art pieces! Oil on canvas..or? My favourite, by miles ahead, is
the black, white & grey tones portrait of him from the time of Change Of Habit.
Really impressive! Did you continue your artwork after those from 83 in the book?

Didn't know Vampi's boobs were that big a size?!!!
Some great pieces there ( and I don't mean the boobs only)!
Leave 'm up, and let others here enjoy your art.
The Montford posts have dried up anyway. You should contact
EPE...Your 'glamour' style should go over well with the fans, imo.
I wouldn't mind having the 68 painting as a poster up on
my wall! And Vampirella as well...ofcourse!

Vampi,s boobs could have been even larger..just run out o paint!
Will try to get the 68 painting finished some day then I will send you a print of both ...problem these days I look after my Kath who has problems with both lungs and is on a oxigen machine and its a 24/7 thing and do not get that much time to get stuck into artwork...but I will do my best.
