As i wrote on another thread,some FTD"s and non (FTD) have had in the past ... CD Rot!.

This is for new members who may not have seen this topic or put the fear in to the older fans .

So here is a small list and also a link about said subject!.

I just checked the four FTDs you mentioned above and IFMT and LYG were both covered in a sticky goo and were jumping all over the place when played. I've cleaned both with a CD cleaning fluid and a lint free cloth and they seem to be OK now. Of course I now don't want to put them back in the damn cases.

I'm about the check the rest, but this is not good enough.

These are the discs that came with no booklet and yet you paid big price"s for them.

I have put this up on other EP forums but i never heard/read if Ernst/Roger ever got told about this problem.

There are one"s one there who have no problem ... but one person is too many for my liking.

FTD replaced SO HIGH when it first came out ... so it has been done!.

Yes Kev but if the discs are cleanable, there is no need to replace them.

Not right there John ... you were fine as you got your disc"s before the CRAZY PAVEN kicks in (read link above) there is not a dam thing can be done for that and i have a few discs that have that (LEGAL and other wise).

Like i said,you have been lucky ... just as well i put this up on it"s own as no one would have read about this problem!.

At the moment no one else here seems to have a problem with it. I still haven'y checked them all though. Will do today.

No one who has read it on here ... yet,but others (see link) and on another EP forum has said the same thing about the problem i have and that should never happen to CD"s now a days!.

I have CD"s from the 80"s and there as good as new.

Hope your other CD"s are fine John and you can "revive" them!.

I've now checked all my FTDs.

Both Loving You and both Elvis Presley CDs were streaked as though they'd been washed in soapy water and left to drain. I cleaned them up and they were fine. I noticed that the card they were resting against in the CD cover was quite greasy and I guess this has transferred onto the CDs.

I've now put all the CDs in plastic CD wallets so that they are nor exposed to the card, glue, grease or anything else.

Watch out with plastic wallets,as when you take out the cd and put it back in the wallet etc,it scratches the playing side ... dvds are the same!.

Glad you got things checked out ... mind on the non FTD"s!.

These are like crapenter's brain, very soft.

I never understood why they didn't house CDs in a dust-proof case that didn't open.

The playing surface would never get exposed until the disc was safely in the player.

Couldn't be done ?

Well, they did just that with Mini Discs [remember them ?]

There were no products marketed with which to clean them, they simply weren't needed as they never got contaminated !

Remember them? I have hundreds of the things (recordable ones. I still think they are fantastic.

You're right, much better design.

over 177 views and only 2 folk have this problems with there discs?.

Hope that is the case ... lot of coin for a disc to have problems like these!.

Finally, mine don't have that problem but I Found My Thrill looks weird. I'll check during the week end if they still played.

So, I checked through much of my collection and see that Cds as far as back 2002 (Fame and Fortunate and It's Midnight) have this issue. I found about 15 titles with this issue and I didn't go through all the FTD classic album releases. Thankfully the Cds play fine but it is quite scary and frustrating to not know what is causing this issue.

Glad they still play Mike ... i have one"s that are now "coasters"!.

As far as sound, I spot checked the 15 titles but didn't hear issues.

This is "Elvis The Lost Promo" which I've had for years. It got rot very soon after I bought it. It's housed in a plastic CD case, no glue anywhere near it. It doesn't play, it can't be ripped and it can't be fixed.
