Me O my, you have a good scanner these days, Jim!
Nice collection of 60s vinyl. The topic door for more vintage
plastic is now firmly locked. Your and Jans' contributions will do
nicely for the time being. Thanks guys.

DON'T FORGET!!! TMMB - DON'T FORGET!!! TMMB finally after the 3rd post-it memo on my screen i'm going to add some articles to this GREAT! but also almost forgotten topic....WAKE UP! keep this topic alive

Here we go...the first 4 (Dutch) clippings are about the the movies Flaming Star, Kid Galahad, Clambake.
Sorry folks, if i have time i'll translate the articles. But there's one thing for sure they weren't too happy with those movies.

Here you see a full page from the dutch magazine Muziek Express 1961. Which is HOT! and which is NOT! these lists (polls) were compiled with teenagers. In those days.

And of course our hero is in the list!

- BEST FOREIGN SINGER -
1 - ELVIS PRESLEY (38 1/2%) smt125

3 - Frank Sinatra (7 1/2%)

RECORD OF THE YEAR
1. HELLO MARY LOU - RICKY NELSON (28%)
2. When The Girl In Your Arms - Cliff Richard (8 1/2%)
3. No More - Elvis Presley (6%)

One Broken Heart For Sale just entered the charts and started with at Nr.16 while Return To Sender dropped from Nr.15 to Nr.20 at the Muziek Express Top 30.

correction, Mr. Sarcasm: The Clambake clipping is about the
soundtrack album. The reviewer nicely and truthfully explains there's
some gold ( bonus tracks) in between pure trash ( the film songs)!

Besides that, thanks for putting the stuff up. I understand you have more
on your mind than lending this old man a helping hand. Somebody has to
keep this topic going, gottverdamtnogmalsheisse. Kusje.

The Strictly Elvis fanclub (Rocky Barra) was pretty popular. The first issue was May 1968 the last magazine dated April 1975.
In this collage you can see how good the magazine actually was in those days.

I's impossible to show every page here so we made it easy for you. If you visit this page you can see the entire fanclub magazine. Every page is readable and can be zoomed in.

You can also download the entire magazine as PDF.

Also Ger has something to tell about it.
We hope you enjoy this.

Regards,
lt.columbo & Rijff

I like that Flipsnack, it's a cool site.

Did I tell you I was goin' to add a bit of text? Due to the fun we had with a certain
somebody on this forum, it had slipped my mind...!

Back in 1968, I was a subscriber to Elvis Monthly, and a very disatisfied one. Both
the contents and printing of the monthly were dullville. During the summer of 68 we
learned about Elvis taping a new tv show, set for December viewing in the US.
A friend of mine in Amsterdam showed me several copies of this new fan mag 'Strictly
Elvis' and I was sold right away. 'Strictly' breathed excitement, and, being made in the
US, had up to date news and photographs.

I took out a subscription for a year, and wrote a letter to the editor Rocky Barra.
I got a note back asking me if I would be willing to do a cartoon for his magazine?
He knew I had done some for the Dutch fan mag 'It's Elvis Time'.
I felt honored, and it was published in Strictly # 6. The issue put up by Columbo.
I renewed my subscription many times. But circa 1974 (?) Rocky printed a photo of
himself with a ray of light behind his head : He was goin' to leave the magazine and
devote more time to the lord... He had seen the light... Hence the silly photograph!
I didn't renew my subscription. No religious hocus pocus in my house, thank you
very much. That was the end of Strictly for me, and many others.
Later on I was informed Rocky couldn't cope with the strong rumours at the time
about Elvis living a not so goody-goody- gumdrop lifestyle. It clashed with his christian
believes... The old Rock works as a minister these days...
A devoted Republican, I'm sure?!
But crap aside, he did a great job with the magazine. And Im grateful for that.
