UPDATE: JANUARY 12, 2012
Since there are also a lot other gum cards from different countries i decided to change the subject title to "European Gum Cards" instead of only Dutch gum cards.

Here's our latest topic. DUTCH gum cards.
And there were MANY MANY different ones. A lot of them were also for other countries like Belgium, France and Germany.

Here's a short introduction about those cards.
KLENE's Suikerwerkfabrieken N.V. in Amsterdam (Candy factory) started with the cards in 1935 with 210 different ones all with Shirley Temple on front.

In 1954 they launched a second set with 292 cards! i don't know how long this serie exactly go.
But there are two different Elvis cards from that 2nd serie (Nr.224 which you can see in the image below) and Nr.233 which i don't have a scan from. You also can see the back of the card. With an ad from the factory.

In 1957 "Maple Leaf" came with a set called "Music Stars" with 223 different cards.
Only one from Elvis Nr.27 (see image)

In 1958 another factory (name unknown) came with a set of gum cards this was "Serie A" this was the beginning of an endless series of gum cards. This set can be found with or without a "PRINTED IN HOLLAND" line on front (see scan) There are 30 diferent ones from Elvis in this serie.

This set was the same as the Hellas Serie A set (from Finland also 1958), except this set is blank-backed and the Hellas set has Hellas ad text on the back, but the images on front are all the same and in the same order.

Last but not least is the Elvis gum card from MONTY which is from 1958 (please tell me if i'm wrong), which can't be really classified as a gumcard because the size is bigger then a postcard (see scan complete with wrapper and piece of gum unused  ). But it's a really a cool thing to have (wondering if the chewing gum is still as tasty as it was  :D

Hope you enjoyed this topic, we're trying to update this one. But these cards don't popup everyday.
Thanks!

Regards,
G&G

Hi G&G!

Nice topic, cool presentation!
Thanks!

I have some "vlinder" cards aswell, very thin paper, appear to be old.
Was that bubblegum aswell? Something else?

Thanks for the lesson in Dutch history! It's very much appreciated!

The Monty envelope with photo and gum could very well be from 57-58.
There was a small candy shop around the corner from the street where
I lived back then. They sold the Monty gum packs at 5 dutch cents each.
A little boy my age ( 6-7) had the Elvis photo in his collection. For weeks
in a row I would visit the candy store with a 5 cents coin tucked away
in my hand... Never was lucky getting the Elvis photo, but plenty of
Pat Boone and Doris Day photos! Life can be hell for little children!

Niels,

(De) Vlinder was a company that produced matches. The cards (labels) you mean are labels from matchboxes.
In the late 50's, 60's till 1974 they created a huge serie from matchbox labels (over 400!) which you could collect.

Numbered and later with a letter before the number.

With various thems, moviestars, musicstars, airplanes etc.

There are 15 pictured Elvis. I don't have one of them, but there are 10 on Ebay now (price is way too high in my opinion)
You do see them often on collectors fairs. It shouldn't be too hard to get them all.

That's it for now.

Regards,
lt.columbo

Thanks Columbo!

Matches... ofcours:) I'll check them with the ones I have...
There is sooo much to collect!

Would it have been easier if I was born 40 years ago?
Guess not!

Thanks,
Niels

Here we go...2nd batch of gumcards. I also changed the subject title to European gumcards. So we can enhance and add more cards.

- Serie N was distributed in 1962 with a total of 240 cards, 21 cards with Elvis pictured. (see cards no.149 and no.201)

- card PA.100 year unknown the only known info is that the serie PA started in 1958.

- centre card is from the U.K. from the Disc Jockey GUM factory. Total cards in set are 48 (2nd serie) Nr.15 is Elvis this is also the only one from Elvis in this serie. Year of issue 1958.

- card K10 is from a serie out of 150 numbered cards. This serie was issued in Sweden & (probably) Netherlands also. Many of the series gum cards no matter what number or letter were issued in Sweden and Netherlands.

- Star "A" Bilder card, this was a set from 150 cards 6 with Elvis pictured. This set was issued in Sweden in 1962 or 1963.

If someone has more specific info about these cards or other gumcards, please don't wait to place it on the forum we could use it.

ENJOY! 8)
