You're not the only one who had serious problems getting back onto Monkey,
even though they have been members for a long, long time.
I wonder what's causing the trouble?
Glad you found your way back here.

Exactly 49 years ago, just before christmas of 1962 (damned, that is a long time ago !), I went home from school for my winter holidays with 2 used Elvis EPs a school mate sold me: the french versions of the Jailhouse Rock EP and volume 2 of the King Creole EP. With the Rock and Roll vol 2 EP (Tutti Frutti, Blue suede shoes, Shake, rattle and roll and Blue moon) and my first ever Elvis EP record (Surrender, Flaming star, Summer kisses winter tears, Lonely man), they gave me during that christmas time fantastic moments of joy, discovering the Elvis I still treasure most today (from Sun till 1964).

Thanks a lot for these gems Ger, like it is said in the old standard song, they allow to renew old memories, and I'm sooooo nostalgic !

:cheers

Hey Rio Bravo, what took you so long to find this place ?!
Great to have yet another fan aboard with his heart and mind in
the right place!!

Do you happen to still have the three EP treasures from 1962?!

You know Ger, sometimes it's a long lonely highway to come aboard, but here I am and from now on you can count on me.
Yes, I still have these precious madeleine de Proust: everytime I look at them (and that means often !), machine time takes me back to these early sixties when...all was kool...and so much to be discovered : youth, marvelous general music background and above all, Elvis at his vocal peak.
And I have plenty of them...
Early 1962 I walked in a cinema of the city of Metz France to see a western movie a friend of mine had recommended me not to miss...when I left, I was very satisfied with the quality of the film, but the icing on the cake was I had the Elvis virus inoculated ! Of course, the movie was Flaming Star. I can say that this afternoon changed my life ! Soon after that, I had my second encounter of the third kind when I heard Tutti Frutti on the radio. From now on I had found my hero !
But that doesn't mean I am lacking discernment...By the way, I'm no jumpsuit and 70's soundboard fanatic at all, to say the least. And I don't belong to the " he could do no wrong" brigade.
By coincidence, a few days ago I came across an old report of yours, "Vegas 76 revisited" (issue 18 of TMAHM) and was impressed by your honesty and frankness. Lucidity and objectivity seem to be missing in too many fans' book !
To come back to our subject, I'm glad to be here and willing to contribute and share our mutual passion for the man and first of all for his music...

Thanks for your interesting and amusing post. Am I right to presume you're French?
( French EPs, City of Metz...). I have a question about the French Movie posters...
The first 4. I can't remember ever having seen one for Love Me Tender , and neither
Loving You? Jailhouse Rock I know from a postcard reprint, and I wonder if the one
for King Creole, in a leather jacket with fists up, painted, was indeed the original
Theater poster from the end of the 50s? Or is the story true, King Creole wasn't
released in French Cinemas till 1977?!! Or worse... only released on video?!
Hoping you can shed some light on my questions?! If possible with some photos?!
Great to have you here. You're probably the only Frenchman on this Forum...?

Sorry Ger, it took a while because of the Christmas and New Year holidays, but here we go again. Yes I'm french and I'll do my best to bring you and the Elvis fans here all the news about Elvis in France I'm able to deliver.
To begin with King Creole, no the poster you mention was not the original one but it was recreated for a video issue in the 80's, associating mainly the black leather jacket Elvis wore in the 1968 TV show with the fighter look Elvis has in King Creole.
The movie had its french issue on april 1st of 1960.
I know of two posters, the first one seems to be the official one used for the 1960 issue.

Good you made it back here!
Both King Creole posters are new to me, and probably to most
visitors & contributers on I Gotta Know ! The first one up sorta
reminds me of the design used in Belgium for years. Not bad, but
not great either, imo.
The 2nd one I love! It has almost got a Hitchcock suspense feel
to it!
It wasn't till the late 60s I learned about the French pop magazines,
like Salute Les Copains... What was the French magazines situation like,
back in the late 50s, early 60s? Was Elvis on the covers regularly?
I think he was on Cine Monde a couple of times, If my memory doesn't
fail me? And I did, at one time, have the French King Creole film strip magazine,
posted long time ago on this section...
To be frank, little we know about Elvis' popularity in France. Except many
kool EPs and the great 10inch album saw release over there, during the golden
years...
So, mon ami, anything 50s & 60s you can share with us, please do!
Have a good weekend...and come back! thumbs.gif

Some years ago I bought in auction some items Trude Forsher,s son was selling..Trude was Elvis/col secretary.
The items were of her short hand notes she made at the time Elvis was filming Jailhouse Rock.
120 pieces altogether..some on slips of paper and one complete note pad, some are hard to make out because of the short hand but some refer to Elvis going to the hostpital to have the toohcap removed from his lung and other interesting stuff.
Also bought the shooting schedule for the 5/29/57..(see certs for both items)

Pretty amazing how much bits and pieces from the set of Jailhouse Rock
escaped the dustbin! I sure wouldn't mind a few more larger scans from
Trude Forsher's notebook on Elvis! Looking forward to these. When you
have time, sir.

Scanner not picked up to well but here are just a few notes
one says "Million records sold befor release" and another refers to Elvis in Hospital regarding the toohcap in his lungs....many more but in shorthand, only wish I could read them I am sure there are some interestin stuff mixed in...apart from Elvis orderin doughnuts & coffee!
