Here's cover number two. This is a Muziek Parade from july 1959. It looks like Elvis is reading a copy of this dutch magazine, but this is a trick picture!! Have no idea how they did that back then, but they did! Enjoy. Greetings, Jan

long before the computer age faked photos were made.
It's a pretty good job and lot's of airbrushing. I suspect it's only
Elvis' head that's authentic? It dates back to his arrival
in Germany, in 58.

rare magazine, Jans. Nice.
Anything worthwhile inside, as the cover says "Elvis Presley Special"?

Memories.....

The trick photo of Elvis reading Muziek Parade is quite simple.
It is two photo's.
You photograph someone holding the magazine and cut along the top of the magazine.
On top you use this Elvis photo.

Skip Voogd wrote lots of liner notes on LP's, but he did not like rock and roll!

Although Elvis pictures and stories were featured in magazines, you could hardly hear him on the radio.
It was not until September 1959 (!!!!!) Dutch radio got a "teenager" programm called "Tijd voor Teenagers" (Time for Teenagers).
Presented by Dick Duster (an alias as people did not want to be associated with rock and roll, even in september 1959) who was later replaced by Herman Stok. Each show, lasting some 55 minutes, played an Elvis song and sometimes even both sides of a new single.
Believe it or not, us teenagers stayed at home for this programm! It was on fridays from 17.05 till 18.00 o'clock.
There also was Radio Luxemburg, but only in the evenings and the sound was always fading in and out.

If you were lucky on your saturday afternoon visit to the record shop, there would be a new Elvis single, EP or LP.
If there was no new release, you'd save your pocketmoney earned by delivering newspapers after school.
In those days people still had to worn on saturday monring and us kids had to go to school.

Back to the magazines.
If you bought them, you'd cut out the Elvis photo's and stuck them on your walls. Like on this photo of my room, taken in 1963.

I'd say that pic is later than 1963....isn't that the Ain't That Loving You Baby sleeve, which didn't come out till late 1964 I think?

You could be right John.
I have it dated as 1963. There is no date on the back of the photo, only my copyright notice. (I used to take pics of artists a lot in those days). Anyway, it's "long ago".
