TOO MUCH MONKEY BUSINESS: The Elvis Forum

I think this was the first magazine in the Netherlands with Elvis on the cover.
It's from October 1956.
The front page is also in Ger Rijff's book The Rock'n'Roll Years, volume one, but this one is a bit better quality.

Man, he was wild. They used that big photo loads back in the day. Was it St Petersburg?

Jans, this Vizier magazine is from october, and the monthly Muziek Parade
featured Elvis on their september 1956 cover. It featured the 'famous' anti
Elvis story by Dutch 'journalist' Skip Voogd.
Muziek Expres, while still printed as a fold out newspaper, also had an Elvis
cover around that time. A black & white shot from the Hound Dog recording
session...I haven't got that issue, so can't give the exact month.
The last time I held it in my hands must have been in the early 60s...
All in all, not much Elvis magazine covers in our little country in those days.
O, I almost forget Tuney Tunes... They featured a Love Me Tender publicity
shot on the cover...again ( I believe?) circa october 56.

First correction: Muziek Parade didn't feature Elvis on the cover 'till April 1958!

2nd correction : Skip Voogd was a contributor for Tuney Tunes. His hate piece
made their pages in september 56. Not sure if it was this issue that had the LMT
photo cover? I only could find the story, not the actual magazine.

Dates and places do get cloudy going up in age... Bugger!

Great post. Covers don't get better than this. I haven't seen any Dutch magazine prior to 1958. Hope you're going to post more. As your title suggests. Keep them coming. This forum section is turning into an international library. Love it!!!!!

This is from Tuney Tunes September 1956 It did not have Elvis on the cover.
I don't know Muziek Parade magazines from that early.

So Vizier magazine is the earliest title with Elvis on
the cover! Very surprising as Vizier had an all catholic
audience who must have been shocked out their seats
eying the son of satan himself on the cover!

I'll be searching for magzines from Belgium with Elvis covers
soon... I have found three so far... Juke Box november 58,
Musique 59 and Song Parade no date on cover, but it features
song titles from King Creole... probably from 59?
I'll get it off to you in a couple days, so you can put them
up here.

Jans - I thought I'd post some old Dutch mags into your excellent thread. I have also posted the valentine comic that I'd said I would post in the the thread - French and Dutch Elvis Picture Story Magazines in I Gotta Know section.

I've included all the pages that relate to the Elvis items. If you want the comic parts removed please remove them. I collect European magazines for their covers - I can't read anything other than English and I don't know there relevance. This Valentine comic is more like the UK version where stories are based on a song title. There are some great covers from countries like Germany, France etc. if someone wants a thread on any of these I certainly don't mind contributing.

I've a couple of other Dutch mags from 1961/2 but they're too big to scan if you want them here I'll try and photograph them.

some nice pieces, Harry... The newspaper like Muziek Expres
( Flaming Star photo cover) is pretty rare. I can do without
the Valentine comic strips...except the title pages featuring
an Elvis photo, as the strips have zip to do with our hero...
I know this remark sounds a bit harsh, perhaps... but things
are getting a bit out of hand this way imo...

Makes sense to me - As I said I collect these magazines for their covers - I can't read them - Some nice pictures turn up now and again, especially in some of the French mags I have.

Can you resize your images ? I guess this forum can't handle the big sized pictures.
This topic (and a few others) opens very slowly. Your images are over 3 MiB, I think 400 KiB will do.
ps. The cover of Valentine magazine belongs imo in the other topic French and Dutch Elvis Picture Story Magazines.

Jans - Thanks for the point to resize pictures - didn't know about this. I've said a few times I'm new to this type of Internet site. I changed all the pics I posted to much smaller files. Hope this helps speed up the opening of the pages. I'll certainly use this in the future as it was so fast to load pictures that have so far been taking a long time.
