Might as well vote while we are at it. The Guardian and it's readers need to know we are still here. It's just a one day Poll anyway.

thanks Maurice. Good to fly the flag but when people like this dude vote:

"Elvis, of course, recorded several of Cash's songs, inc Ring of Fire. Not a great admirer of Elvis's covers myself."

it doesn't really matter.

where Ive been?
Mainly on this planet...and you?
I vaguely remember a letter from you... we're talking at least 5 years ago, right?
For the most part I enjoy being a Monkey here on the forum, doing what I do best:
presenting early Elvis, together with John, in the I Gotta Know section, tell some
stories now and then, rumble a little and enjoy the company of my son, who, like
me, loves the old music. I can't complain.

Yes it must be about five years...around the time of the Dutch Elvis stamp release anyway. I have been on other various forums having fun and a few Elvis related adventures. The latest was dealing by telephone with Ed Leek of "My Happiness" fame till he died. Then talking to Dolores Hart after she called me by telephone from Bethlehem! :-)

Your Elvis stories are always so interesting and informative and I like the way you tell them.
We share a love of sharing the very exciting early Elvis with our family. In my case a son, daughter, 6 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren!

The Guardian Poll closed with Elvis in front. The power of Elvis fans in action.

I can't complain either. So busy catching up on decades of Elvis stories I missed when busy with Beethoven.
Also gardening every day. See http://irelandtoo.blogspot.com for a good idea.

The poll is now closed.

Finished at 35.4 % for Johnny Cash.

64.6 % for Elvis.

We showed 'em !

Yes we did indeed, Colin.

The Manchester Guardian as the newspaper was famously known back in the 1950s when I was living in that city has come a long way since it's move to London. Not sure if it covered Elvis stories back then. Never read it. Far too serious a broadsheet for miseducated youths like me at that time.
Now the BBC is moving/moved? to Salford where I grew up not a stone's throw from the centre of Manchester.

Thanksamillion Kay. Quite a reunion going on here. I only found the forum recently too. It's a time consuming place!
