Came yesterday........... No.327

Very impressive set.

Not played any yet !

The book is awesome !

For I'm A Roustabout, it states 'from lacquer source'................ I don't think they've got it on tape..............

Cool! Looks great, thanks for posting these.

How about 76, Ernst alluded to some not so flattering photo's being found during research for the book, those sessions came to mind as the possible setting. Anything to that, or no?

Can't see anything from the 'studio' in '76.

And the two from the '56 September session I posted, I see Davide beat me to it in the History Section !

Oh well..............

Someone has put an a-b comparison up on FECC, & some posters are saying they like the 2nd To None one best !

A while ago, someone [Keith ?] put up a version that sounded even better !

The a/b comparison on FECC just makes "I'm A Roustabout" (from Complete Masters) sound like it's been given a dose of old-fashioned Dolby noise reduction.

IMO, it does not sound "better" than the 2nd To None version, just different with less treble / more bass.

After reading the negative reviews on FECC about the 3 bonus discs on COMPLETE MASTERS I'm very, very glad that I didn't waste my money and hopes on this set.

Rock Legend,
Did you get the set? If so, please share your detailed opinions about it.

Is the 1965 overdubbed version of Tomorrow Night at the correct speed (even if the first note is clipped)?

Thanks - MEMPHISFAN

Yes, I did and I am very pleased with it. This whole package oozes class. I think Ernst & co did a tremendous job on this monumental box set. I haven't listened to everything yet, but I'm very impressed with what I have heard so far. As for the three final discs, like I wrote elsewhere: The rarities sound fine to me. Sure, some hiss is quite noticeable here and there,
but I'd rather have some hiss instead of having it denoised to death. Obviously, many of these rarities were recorded under less than perfect circumstances, and you can't expect miracles with these. But like I said, they sound fine to me, and in
a few cases I was pleasantly surprised,

No, you can't.

It's the mine of info that I like.

The discography shows every US release in his lifetime, together with release date, highest chart position, a colour pic of label or sleeve, track listing and an informative write-up often giving the sales figure.

ColinB,
Is the start of Promised Land clipped at the beginning (as I read on FECC) ?

Cheers Colin,

I'm not at all interested in release dates etc. Wondered if there was any new recording session info.

Well, the write-up for each release does touch on that at times.

But it's no replacement for A Life In Music !

Is it true that this release:
A) Does not contain all (included) songs as originally mastered?
B) Discs not presented with original artwork?
C) Cardboard sleeves?
D) Mastering by Lene Reidel?

It does seem to miss the first guitar note [or 2]......
