I know it looks a bit dodgy, but this bloke is actually doing up his zip.....nearly 40 years before it was invented.

I don't know much about drums, but would this be a typical 1865 gig?

Somewhere around the 28-minute mark, just after the Love Me Tender song, Vance & Clint have a little heart-to-heart about Cathy.

Just as Clint starts to say "Vance, I know you & Cathy used to be..." in the far distance, a small white shape moves along from left to right between the trees.

On DVD, it's obviously something being blown along by the wind, as its tumbling motion is discernable but in 'VHS' it could have been mistaken for a car going along the lane far away..........

After all my effort doing those screen grabs, someone comment on them........................... please !

No, not that.............. the feasibility of my 'car headlight' theory.........

Well, I thought you'd killed it off by suggesting it was a Tesco's bag being blown around.

What I'm asking is do you think it might have been this that led to the 'headlight' myth ?

Oh yes, I suppose it could have been.

Colin, I'm sure you're right with your car headlights theory. I watched that scene on DVD and there's definitely something blowing along in the background. Presumably, it's a piece of paper (about A4 size) - it's light coloured and catches the eye. As you say, on VHS it could easily be mistaken for car headlights on a road. Even seeing the film on a cinema screen - without the luxury of replaying it again or freeze frame - could have sparked the car "myth".

Mystery solved. Thanks for all the effort with the screengrabs.

Well, that was a bit of a 'Rainman' moment, wasn't it ?

An excellent response, but 3 months after the event !

Glad you agree with my theory !
