I have never ever seen a topic, article or nice photo collection on Dutch vinyl.
And that's a shame, we Dutchmen made some nice gems!

But unfortunately, I don't think much is known about Dutch vinyl.
When was it made? What was released?

So I figured I just put some things I have on display and If you got something,
you can let me know and help out making this 'discography' complete!

1950's

Sweet mother of God! Couldn't I find a better copy?
So far I didn't. It plays fine you know....

Anyway, how poor the label may be. "Too Much / Teddy Bear" is ofcours
a rare combination on a single. Highly collectible from the German Catalogue,
in the Netherlands it was released with the same prefix 47-9129.

I was told this record was also released on a Dutch 78 (!!!) one copy known to exist,
the only dutch 78 known to exist. But I have never seen it, so I don't know
whether this is just a story or...

1960's

Apart from the Stay Away, pressed in Germany but released in NL,
the first Dutch single printed in the Netherlands in the '60's I know of is
"Suspicious Minds"

Attachment:

It came in a lovely picture sleeve, but I don't have it!

The Don't Cry Daddy cover makes mention of the Dutch Elvis Fanclub in the
major city of Eibergen! What ever happened to that fanclub... Ger?

The sleeve for 'I Just Can't Help Believing' is well known because of the German
release. The Dutch used a different colouring.

To be continued Shorlty....

1970

Ofcours "I Just Can't Help Believing" was a '70's released.
Followed by this "It's Only Love" Don't you just love that cover?

The Burning Love release isn't too hard to find here in our Low Countries.

As you can see we have some nice cover variations over here.
And I think their worthy of collecting.

I'm not sure of release dates in the Netherlands.
I think this was the first single after august '77?
As far as I know it didn't come in a picture sleeve.

Well known releases, past 1977.

Hope you like them! And have something to add!
Will be back shortly!

Very nice Niels.
A couple i have seen like My boy, Moody Blue and Jailhouse Rock.
Did they not advertise some singles from Holland in the Elvis monthly back in the mid 70's?
I'm sure i saw adverts somewhere for them.
The It's Only Love and Burning Love are great covers.
Keep them coming.

Yesterday I thought I solved the mystery of the 2 different 'Stay Away'
45rpm sleeves... The red and the blue version...
Well, I haven't. On the cover of a Dutch pop weekly newspaper
from april 12, 1968 'Witheek' the editor is giving this new release a big
plug by stating Elvis is getting back on the right track with both the
previous release of Guitar Man and the new one US Male/ Stay Away!
A cropped cover photo of US Male is printed with the favourable text.

I bought 'Witheek' ( previously known as Hitweek) every week. It was
a kool designed paper, very different from the teeny-bopper pop mags.
In my memory, after reading the Witheek story I went out and bought
the single. The one with the blue cover !

Paging thru a booklet on vinyl 45s it says in april the red cover
version was released in Germany. And in september of '68 the blue
cover version...made especially for the Dutch market.
WHY would RCA re release Stay Away 5 months again, after it got publicity
in the Dutch press? The single had already flopped... as did all of Elvis' releases
at the time in both Germany and Holland... Re release a flop? Kinda weird
policy in my book.

In those 5 months from april to september, 2 more singles: You Never
Walk Alone and Let Yourself go were released... and both flopped.

Im 100% sure I picked up the blue
cover shortly after reading the Witheek story in APRIL of '68,
and NOT 5 months later, in september.
I wasn't even aware a red cover was ever made in Germany,
untill Niels showed a copy in his topic!
Will the truth ever come out? No big deal, but fun never the less.

Here is one I have, not exactly rare, although the mention of HURT on the sleeve is printed and not a sticker like on the US version.

Proof indeed a Dutch 78 pressing of Jailhouse Rock / Treat me Nice exists!
Note that the sleeve is a normal German sleeve for 78 rpm pressings from that time!
My believe there's also a Dutch 78 pressing of 'Too Much / Teddy Bear'
we can not proof. Does my memory fail me? Was I only told about
Jailhouse Rock and am I mixing up the titles?

Ger has however this:

Attachment:
IMG_0002.jpg
IMG_0002.jpg [ 1.5 MiB | Viewed 931 times ]

A beautiful example of what the 45 rpm of the Dutch 'Too Much' record
looks like!

So we know in the Netherlands in the 1950's two titels were pressed:
First -most likely- came the 20-7035 of Jailhouse Rock / Treat me Nice
and then the 45: 47-9192

I would just love to hear from another collector who has an other
Dutch pressed 1950's or early 1960's title in his collection!

Thanks Ger,

Niels

Thanks Painterboy!
In later years, by Inelco, more Dutch pressed Elvis titels saw light of day.
I shall look up the titles I have. I think 'Promised Land' is the earliest in my collection (?)
And it goes on to 'Our Memories Of..', 'This is Elvis' and 'He Walks Beside Me'.

Here are Moody Blue with announcement in Dutch for the latest Hit Single and a
promotion record for 100 years of gramophone recording.

Some say the later is 'extremely rare & special edition'. I think I have 2 spare copies
for those who want it. It's not rare at all over here

Best Wishes,
Niels

Wonders do happen! Who knows, maybe a certain person from Greensborro
has a stone mint copy of the LPM-1254 with a littlebit weird German label
that turns out to be Dutch? (I'm too much of a dreamer, right?)

But back to reality:

Thanks a lot for your story. I agree it doesn't make sense.
Since the Dutch issue has the new RCA logo and the German the old
it could make sense the Dutch was released later that year.
However... both copies I have, have the same German V - label.
I never saw the Dutch blue Guitar man with an Orange label.
Wich should easily support your memory of picking up the Dutch copy
straight away!
(and come to think of it, we Dutch are way too bright to release a
already flopped single, right?)

Best Whises,
Niels

Is ofcours not from past 1977 but from 1974.
There are a few indicators. But celebrating '20 years of Elvis'
does give it away a bit, right?

This forum is the best Elvis forum of the net !
I spend the last hours reading a lot of topics.
Beautiful stuff here ....

About the Dutch records. I recently added the 78 of 20-7035 Treat Me Nice-Jailhouse Rock to my collection. I also have the Dutch 45 of 47-9129 Teddy Bear-Too Much.
I think these were the only two Elvis records made in Holland in the 50's
These two records were made by Phonogram in Holland, ordered by Inelco.
They probably had great expectations for these singles.
Most singles were imported from Teldec Germany to Holland.

I also have a strange Dutch pressing in my collection from the series Oldies But Goldies. There were 18 singles released in the 70's from this German series.
The Dutch single is PB 49431 In The Ghetto. I never knew these were made in Holland also.

The last three albums were budget lp's here in Holland. Sold for a few "guldens" here in shops like V&D. You can find them in record fairs for little money.

More cool looking album covers, and some odd ones too. Not 100% certain, but pretty damn sure the top left photo here is backwards, which is a problem I've noticed on quite a few foreign releases, in particular the Japanese releases.

Hoi Jans!
Your most welcome!
Congratulations on adding the 78 to your collection!
Any chance you can tell something about it?
The one I got to scan the photo from mr. Rijff once showed up
in the inventory of a radio station. An other major collector told
me it was the only copy known to exist. Now you have one. Can
you tell the history of it? Is it the same? Or does your copy proof
more exist!

Do you have any '60's Dutch pressings in your collection?
Maybe the picture sleeve for 'Suspicious Minds'?
It's not too rare, I've seen it around!

And thanks for the 'Golden Oldies' Weird this one was pressed
in the Netherlands! There's so much more to discover:)
Thanks!

Here a scan with the story (in Dutch) from the magazine Warm Sounds Magazine number 9. The 78 of Jailhouse Rock is not mentioned, so I think it's rare. But I know at least one collector who has this also in his collection.

If you're interested, you can order these magazines here : http://www.dacaporecords.nl/warmsounds/
As I said, number 9 shows (almost) all the RCA singles released in the Netherlands.

Hello Niels,
Can you confirm that Promised Land is the earliest Dutch pressed LP?.I have all the Dutch LP's pictured above and also a copy of the Today LP, but I would like to get an idea of what LP's are available from The Netherlands. Also to Col. Snow can you confirm that the pic-discs are Dutch pressings and not Danish as I always thought they were from Denmark?.
