TOO MUCH MONKEY BUSINESS: The Elvis Forum

I usually search google's news on Elvis Presley fairly frequently and over the last ten years have noticed how few Elvis fans bother to reply to newspaper etc articles on Elvis, where comment sections are there for them to do so.

Brian Quinn, Jim Burrows and I appear to be the only Elvis fans that take the time to reply, time and time again.

Where's cantankerous Ger Rijff when he's needed?

(Busy sniping at fans who share the heavy and light side of Elvisology. Well this Irish Minstrel can kick ass as well, if not far better than any high Flying Dutchman!)

I've replied to a few newspaper articles here and there writing to the writer - only to get crickets in return. They don't give a shit. As for writing public comments for others to read - I don't care what others think of my opinion. I don't have that big of an ego (not a shot at you, or anyone else, referring only to myself) so I usually pass. Most times I don't read what others write on those comment sections either. I've never found anything ground breaking written there.

Well I have seen Elvis mockers pulverised by some of the replies on comment sections and in newspaper letters.

It's my belief the truth asserts itself and falsehoods put out about Elvis can be rectified.

We are all swayed by what we read and see even if we don't admit it.

I do care what people think. Otherwise I wouldn't be here replying to you, as you did taking time to replly to me.

Well, here I care, or I wouldn't reply either, so we agree there.

I've seen poorly written, no fact check written shit articles - emailed the writer, & gotten nothing in reply. It sucks. So, I've taken to other ways of getting the real story out there with my own contributions, stories, & writings to counter the crap.

It's my firm belief all with a functioning brain recognise unrelenting logic so even those that do not bother to reply have learnt something when we correct them with facts.

None of us like being proven wrong but when it happens it's educational. We secretly smile.

thousands of hours writing, publishing books and polute various Elvis sites...
I'm here everyday, posting a lot... often just to keep certain topics going...Sometimes
to the point of gettin' physicaly ill...What else do you want me to do?... Die for

I sometimes throw in a comment in response to an online article but generally i let it go. The journos couldn't care less and sometimes thrive on a bit of controversy

Ger, you forget I have read your biographical details in your essay that appeared in the book "In Search of Elvis" by Vernon Chadwick of the Elvis Conference.

Millions of Elvis fans throughout their lives have never been members of fan clubs or internet forums and managed to be good Elvis fans nevertheless. Most of THEIR Elvis news and stories comes directly from the media. To them we do not exist.

Compared with you I'm a newcomer. I was not involved in the 'Elvis world' till 1997, although a fan from 1957. I was too busy raising and educating my children. But I had spotted various names in the old Elvis monthlies. Yours cropped up quite a lot so we all know you have done and are doing fine work.

The prime reason I'm here at all is because of all the insults levelled at us early Elvis fans in the days when we could not counter the media's claims. Now we can, and I know what we say can make a difference. Slowly but surely editors are becoming aware that there are a lot of articulate Elvis fans ready to correct their reporters at every opportunity. I know because I have spoken to them directly in their offices.
An essay I wrote attacking radio presenters for mocking Elvis and his fans was broadcast on our national radio station here where hundreds of thousands listen.

Yes Rickeap, I know they TRY and ignore us but it will not work anymore. We have become part of the Media.

Like I don't give a flying fuck what the media thinks about Elvis
fans, or fans in general. It's been like this forever. But don't let me

Ger has done quite a bit for Elvis and the Elvis fans, I think.
Rather than writing to newspapers, who couldn't care less (I know from experience) if their information about Elvis is right or wrong, he made sure Elvis was kept in the limelight, be it on TV, by publishing books, et cetera.
Ger is a great guy. But he, and I, don't waste time writing to newspapers, Tv and radiostations because it's no use.

Millions read newspapers and a lot of Elvis fans here in Ireland and elsewhere have taken the time to thank me by letter and email.
We in this little "Elvis World" on the internet are a tiny minority.
Radio stations play Elvis's music when I contact them. That's why I contacted them. Now they contact me.
I agree Ger does a lot of hard work but he started insulting me for no good reason. We have never met. In the real world we would probably enjoy a drink or two together.

The Elvis Festival in Tupelo only started in the late 1990s and the Elvis statue only erected in 2002 are of no use? They came about because I put a lot of work into contacting the media and politicians in Tupelo. I gave the signal for the water to be turned on at the Fountain of Life in Tupelo, August 2003. Roy Turner of Tupelo appreciates all the help I give the city in attracting more Elvis fan tourists.

For all my hard work I get attacked by some Elvis fans on forums. Funny ol' world eh?

Yes Luuk I agree life is too short for all this nonsense. I should have more sense than to argue with truth challenged individuals.
