RIPPIN' CORPUS CHRISTI !

The tour of Texas dates in April, started on the 9th, with 2 shows in Wichita Falls.
Followed by appearances in Lubbock, El Paso, Albuquerque, Amarillo and San Antonio
on the 15th.
Elvis and the boys drove into Corpus on the 16th, for one evening performance at the
Memorial Coliseum at 8:00 p.m. It was a sell out crowd of 6000 strong who greeted
the Memphis Flash that night. According to the Corpus Christi Caller newspaper, the next
day: "When Elvis finally took the stage, after a two-hour prologue, pandemonium broke
loose". After his performance, he was rushed off stage, guarded by police.

Great pics! Love those with the white outline. Great! Sad to see the buidling being torn down.

From around the time of the Corpus Christi show...Looking cool as a fridge...

Can anybody remember what brand hair pommade Elvis was using? It wasn't
Brylcreem, nor car oil...A comment would be welcome. Thanks.

I've never seen the pic of Elvis getting onto the plane before.
You can certainly dig them up Ger.

Didn't he say Buitoni (I know it's pasta, but wasn't there something similarly named back in the 50s?) How about Royal Crown?

I did some research into this many years ago when I used to grease up my hair. As far as I could find out no one knows exactly what he used, but he didn't use Royal Crown. People said that he maybe did his own combination of things, but the most mentioned products were:

    Lover's Moon
Dixie Peach Pomade (apparently still available)
Vaseline hair tonic (it couldn't smell like the petroleum jelly, could it)

Prom. He was asked the question on the Milton Berle show on 5th June and says Prom. Whether he did or not, I don't know. Was it just for women?

Here's Chico and Harpo promoting it.

I go along with Prom. Somebody on fecc, long time ago, made mention of Prom having been
used by an Uncle, back in the 50s. I happened to bump into an old fecc thread on the net,
where a handful of members had the same discussion as we have now...Nothing is sacred
anymore these days...!

SAN DIEGO ARENA - GLACIER GARDEN APRIL 4 - 5 * 1956

Two sold out performances at the Arena attracted over 11000 fans.
Navy shore patrol and extra policemen had to protect Elvis from his over-enthusiastic
fans storming the stage during both shows.

LOVE IT! Like the pic of the memorial coliseum in Corpus Christi, as it looks now-another piece of history almost gone.

Some recently 'discovered' images...The opening shot ( kool or what?!)
dates from March 20, 1956, in Augusta, Georgia. The one with Scotty on stage
dates from May 56, in Ohio.

Thanks to Francesc for the newspaper article.

Enjoy!

Pro shot footage from San Diego on either the 4th or 5th as well.

Anyone know why? Was it just for news reel purposes?

Anyone who's seen this pro shot footage from April 4-5, 56 ? Is it the color 8mm material
mentioned in one of the Berle show topics in I Gotta Know, elsewhere, you have in mind?

No Ger, it's the 16mm black and white and always without sound, whether or not it was originally with sound I dont know.
It's appeared on no end of releases.
Keith had it on his site a while back, but it's not there now.

Now I do remember what footage you're talking about. Short clips of fans standing in line for
tickets, him running to the stage, with guitar under his arm, and a bit of him on stage, singin'
and strumming his guitar. Right?
I believe this to be all there is to the bl & wh footage...Andrew Solt showed his copy from the
film to me on video, back in the 80s...There wasn't more.

As far as I can recall there was footage from both shows, the 4th and the 5th, with one being of Elvis backstage and the other being on stage.
I dont recall the fans standing in line for tickets, but the other bit is a good description.
But why was it filmed?
It seemed silly to go back the next day just to film an odd litle bit is it was purely for news reel purposes.

Did Andy Solt say what the source was?

We're talking over 3 decades ago! Me and a friend were seated in the back of his Hollywood
office, and he kept going into another room picking out fresh video tapes with the TV shows
not seen a the time... 8mm home movies, etc. A lot to digest in a couple of hours on weekday
afternoon! So...no...I didn't ask specific details back then.
I was dazed to say the least. Before you pop the question if I remember any footage from
the Presley family not included in films or video/dvd to this day? Nope. Only scenes such as
the party at Sam's house that ran longer than the stuff released. But that doesn't mean
there isn't more? I really don't know.

Did you solve this fake all by yourself?! Finding the photo from LMT is
pretty good, no,...damn excellent detective work! My compliments, Claude.
