These promotional triple SPD-23 eps were only given to customers who bought a RCA VICTOR Victrola record player back in ’56 as a bonus for $47.95, customers received the special “triple EP” which featured all the songs from the first Elvis album (LPM -1254) over three 7” 45s.

side 1: Blue Suede Shoes - I'm Counting On You
side 2: I Got A Woman - One Sided Love Affair
side 3: I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Cry - I'll Never Let You Go
side 4: Tutti Frutti - Tryin' To Get to You
side 5: Don't Be Cruel - I Want you, I Need You, I Love You
side 6: Hound Dog - My Baby Left Me

I've had both....triple and player....and both bought together in a set....back while I was collecting! It was a lifetime-dream coming through. I've had to save a lot of money through years just to buy this thing!!! I was a lucky guy holding these things in my hand after unpacking them! The set was sent from US to Germany ia Express....was on way three days....a fantastic moment like birthday and xmas on one day.....

Today, another memorable day over here in the green fields just between Amsterdam and The Hague (The Netherlands). The mail man stepped into our garden office with a package from The States containing my copy of SPD-23. Years went by and I watched the bidding on Ebay but over and over again the price was way beyond anything I would pay for this triple EP set. (Got 4 childern to take care of you know and life has not become much cheaper or easier since the financial crisis hit in Europe)...

A couple of weeks ago I saw my chance and hit the bid button as fast as I could. In the end I paid USD 300,- (E 240,-) for my set, featuring the sleeve which is quite clean and in nice shape. Far better than I expected really. Some colouring on the front cover but hey... the thing is almost 60 years old. Two records look visually like VG+ the seller promised and 1 record suffers from scratches and will probably not be playable without skips or pops. Labels are nice and clean though.

The mail man had another surprise for me. In order to get my set I had to donate E 65,- for taxes because the seller follows the new Ebay-regulations. That's a f*cking 40% of custom taxes just because Ebay says all sellers should declare the value so governments can earn extra taxes. I think this was my last Ebay purchase for the years to come, but I am happy to finally own my SPD-23. It is far from mint and not all records may actually be playable... but hey... it is my baby and I love it! thumbs.gif
