Hi there.
I hope its ok I post here, otherwise let me know :D
Vinyl has always been my thing and living in Denmark
made me aware that Elvis vinyl(local pressed) was a strage/ugly thing.
In Dk we never had one single promo vinyl, How rare is that?
If you don't mind I will scan/photo my collection of Danish Delight(if you like), in small parts.
First, from a Great time at fecc with Riff'n'Roy days, think it was was called "echoes of the past"
concerning Jailhouse Rock, The records shown are stilll mine though ugly :-)

Great covers, I've seen the first 2 before in magazines/books but I have not seen the last 3.Don't worry about the condition they are what is called 'lived in'.Keep 'em coming.

Dan The Man!

Those odd Danish covers are most welcome!
I have some in my collection, but always feel there must be a lot more!
I love your 'That's All Right' copy there!

Has there ever been a complete Danish discography published?
Do you have more to post?

Keep 'm coming!
Niels

Hi Again.
Thanks for your replies.
I would have posted earlier but work takes too much of my time.
Niels, regarding your question about a Danish discography I know there has been some attemps but nothing complete.
I have some old Danish fan magazines with articles by a dane named Poul Madsen. He wrote about Danish vinyl,I'll see if
I can find Them.

Here's some more scans

good lord! What a lovely collection of utter ugly printed sleeves!
The Rockin' Presley ep is nice ( and rare). Did RCA Denmark used
printing companies dating back to the days when Vikings ruled?!
Thanks Dan the man for posting the lot. Every interesting bit of
vintage Elvis helps making Spinnin' & I Gotta Know the best read
sections on this forum.

Why not?! We have 300 plus :smt002 English comicbooks pictured...
30 plus Danish movie programs won't hurt either
Make a choice of the best, and not all at once please.
Any theater handbills to go along with them?

Can I say one thing in favour for the Danish picture sleeves- at least you got picture sleeves!
In Britain the miserable gits at RCA obviously thought there was no need to give us picture sleeves except for ep's.Now if you look at the Quality of HMV sleeves and the pictures used it shows that someone had the right ideas, think what they could have done for the singles. Again it's all down to money and need. They obviously reckoned that they would sell anyway and why waste money.

Here an oldie from Denmark.
Jailhouse Rock.
Strange is that on side 2 the title Baby I Don't Care is not mentioned.

I don't know if this EP is rare.
Didn't see him before.

Hi there Dan the Man,
A great thread you open up here! The covers are quite ugly actually but that has its charm... It is nice to see how different countries had different strategies or releases... Would be nice to know some more about the Danish discography if you could find the time. Like when did RCA Danmark start releasing, what were the first releases and why did they use these covers? I would be very interested to know!

All I know is Denmark never released any Elvis 78,s so there first releases were probably quite late compared with other countries.

Some nice sleeves there Dan. Shame that folks felt the need to Sellotape every little rip in those days.
Love the avatar too. Good collection thanks for sharing.

German RCA pressed several EPs exclusively for Scandinavian countries back
in the 50s. One being 'Rockin' Presley' EPA 9500. All titles available in
Denmark during 56 and most part of 57 were probably all German
imports...?

The socond sleeve of Jailhouse Rock with two pictures of Elvis I have never seen. I believe the lower picture is a cutting glued on to the sleeve.
Am I correct??? I have this one with only the upper picture.

I recently got this 45 in a lot from Ebay. I had posted on another tread asking if this was original cover or if it was a homemade one. Number on 45 is 47-6870. Cover is real bad shape, been taped over the years, hence the yellow around edges. Vinyl itself is decent.
Heres a couple of pics.

Hi Dan my Man!

I love the Danish vinyl and the fact your topic is being added to by others.
So, any chance you came across the articles by Poul Madsen?
Would love to read / see them!

Best wishes,
Niels

And Murph!
Thanks for adding!

Those carton singles are not really Danish.
Because at that time, the 1980's, copyright expired after 25 years in Denmark, officially these discs were made in Denmark but by a p.o.box company. They were released in The Netherlands by Weton-Wesgram. In the 1980's every sort of shop had lots of these for sale.
I have one that has 2 Elvis songs on one side (if I remember correctly Hot dog & Hard headed woman) with a lady telling an erotic story on the other side, accompanied by instrumental orchestra music.
The pictures on that disc are hardcore porn, hence I cannot show scans.
The story behind this disc is that some sexclub owner had them made and then someone told him he could get into trouble using Elvis songs on this type of picture disc. So he destroyed them. Only a few survived, of which I have one, given by a friend who knew I collected Elvis.

Thanks!! Very interesting, I didn't know that, so where were they actually physically made? The Netherlands?

Unfortunately there is no hardcore porn on any of these. :(

They were indeed made in The Netherlands.
Weton-Wesgram still exists and moved from their old office and storage facility in Rotterdam to a huge new building in a place south of Rotterdam. These days they release loads of CD's all featuring out-of-copyright material, ranging from Elvis-only compilations to rock and roll compilations, big band music compilations, jazz compilations. All these discs sell for peanuts but there are so many different ones you'd be poor if you buy them all. They also have 5-CD-sets as well as 10-CD-sets in a slim carton box with each CD in a paper sleeve selling for € 4,99 or € 9,99. Stores like MediaMarkt and Saturn have loads of these in stock.
