The original version was recorded in sept. 1959 by Charlie Blackwell (Warner Bros 5132).

Another version was recorded in nov. 1959 by Marty Vine (Epic 9382).

Thanks Colonel Snow...didn't know Elvis' wasn't the original. Cool song and I like Charlie's version too.

I'm beginning to doubt that anything he recorded was original. In the past 10 years or so, I've discovered so many songs which were first recorded by other artists including many of the ones Colonel Snow is highlighting, but the Colonel has found a few more I didn't know weren't Elvis originals.

Youtube is a wonderful source for all of this information and there's a guy on there who posts a lot of these tracks (is it you Colonel?)

We should compile a list.

It would be great to have a list of all Elvis masters (which I have somewhere) and cross off those that weren't originals, I think we'd all be a little surprised by it!!

On this site you'll find a lot information about "original" versions of Elvis' and other songs.
The information is not accurate sometimes by the way of writing recording dates. Sometimes they used the English way / sometimes they used the European way and when only the month of recording is available it often happens that they use 15 as day. Very confusing!!
