In November of 1956 the magazine Elvis Answers back, with attached 78 rpm cardboard
record, was released in The U.S. Various (3?) color variations exist for the title of the
magazine. And two different labels...with different titles.
In 1957, Weekend Mail in the UK offered its readers a shellac edition for sale. It could be
ordered thru the mail. Ive never seen an ad for the Weekend Mail record.
Teen Parade magazine in The U.S. re-released the contents of the interview on a thin
45rpm flexi on a later date...Again, no further info is known on this flexi release by me?
Could Teen Parade readers order it thru the mail... ?

In the late 60s, early 70s, boxes filled with numerous flexis, were discovered and sold here
in Europe and the UK...I bought my copy from Ian Bailye's Vintage club at the time.
If any of you have more information on the shellac and flexi editions, please share it with
us on this topic. Thanks.

Yes, I have this. It was very slightly edited so that Elvis misses out a few words towards the end. We've covered it on here before. I'll see what I can dig up.

Thanks gents. I was aware of this re-issue from the 90s, but wanted to concentrate on
the old editions...But some younger fans will find it interesting? Thanks for adding.

This afternoon I found better scans of the UK Weekend Mail copy & envelope.
It was posted in April of 1957. Still no luck in finding a copy of the ad in Weekend Mail
selling the record.

Maybe I imagine things, but this edition of the mag is slightly different in color compared to
the other 2 images in the beginning of this topic. If not, at least it has the record attached
with the 'Speaks-In Person' label...I think the rarest of the lot?
Jans, if your copy of Answers Back is different to the ones in this topic, please add...If it's
the same, no need for it really. Glad you found your way to my office. You're always welcome
to drop in.

Im adding 2 photo pages from the original Answers Back magazine.
These, and others, would much later re-appear in a deluxe hardback photobook...
'Reflections' was the title...?

File comment: After the success of the Elvis Truth About Me, Weekend Mail continued with a Tommy Steele version. Steele was a highly successful Rock n Roll singer from England. He was dowright bad. Cliff took over in 1958 and showed the public, you didn't have to be American to make good records. Steele got into cheesy Musicals.

Elvis checking out a copy of 'Hear' magazine, (with a Tab Hunter?) flexi on the cover.
Was this the magazine that landed the idea in Parker's lap to do Elvis Answers Back?!
Or did 'Hear' magazine came later? Comments are welcome.

When was the Truth About Me interview recorded? I have forgotten...?

Was it done during the many hours inbetween shows in Florida, in August?

Acording to the book All Shook Up Day by Day Elvis returned to Hollywood to the 20th Century Fox studios on this date. Then onto the Knickerbocker Hotel with Cliff Gleaves.
The puzzle continues.............

Thanks, Mr Flynn.
In Day by Day, Ernst makes the mistake saying: Elvis gives an interview on the set,
to be released as a special 45rpm disc inserted into the magazine Teen Parade and titled
"The Truth About Me".
That should read : for the magazine Elvis Answers Back. Although many flexis with Teen
Parade on the label survived, not one copy of the actual magazine carrying the disc has ever
turned up in 55-56 years...anywhere! Therefore I have reason to believe Teen Parade never
distributed the flexi. One paper snippet of proof would have turned up after so long?!

Keith, are there RCA office documents with info on who ordered this interview to be released
(in edited form) attached to Elvis Anwsers Back magazine? EPE?

Holey Moley! Who would have ever thought the 'Hear' magazine Elvis is reading as seen
on the photo, and on previous photos put up in this thread months ago, turned up
in auction on Ebay?!
This magazine contains two cardboard-backed 'talking' records attached to both the
front & back cover of 'Hear'. One with Jayne Mansfield and the other with Tab Hunter,
long forgotten heartthrob from the 50s.

This was handed to Elvis showing him what the publishers had in mind when preparing
'Elvis Answers Back' magazine plus record.

This find makes my day! What a kool thread this is, seeing it back today after a long,
long time.
Enjoy!

Just to add to the 1957 UK 78 issue, Frankie Vaughan was the other artist, there was only 3 in total from Weekend Mail, Elvis and Tommy Steele were the other two as mentioned above. I have seen the Weekend Mail Ad, but unfortunately no longer have a scan, but for the Elvis 78 it ran for 4 editions of 2,500 each time, making 10,000 for Elvis in total, price 1/9d about 9 pence in todays money, although it said HMV on the label, it was actually pressed by Decca.
