In 1969 I heard about 20 seconds of My baby's gone, which would be released in 1970.
I heard the 1968 TV special about a week or two after it was aired in the USA. The LP was not yet released here.
I heard several rare live songs, mostly those short ad-lib ones, on cassettes or reel-to-reel tapes long before they appeared on bootleg LPs.
I got a reel-to-reel tape of Aloha from Hawaii about a week after it aired in the USA, which was interesting because of the bonus songs.
I have a reel-to-reel tape which according to people who know features 2 unreleased live performances from 1956 or 1957 in-between songs from 1956 TV shows, songs from movies (then unreleased or different to the record release).
However, the quality of those songs is so poor I doubt anyone is interested to release these. It's audience with a bit of Elvis in the background. Besides, I cannot play reel-to-reel tapes due to not having a tapedeck anymore.
It's funny to see the sheet of paper with the tape. Most titles are wrong! For example "Dominic" might be "Bull song".

I don't believe there to be any unreleased unknown titles, except for the odd
1955 live recordings, and possibly more recordings done in private...Like the
army and 60s home recordings. There's a couple more mid sixties try outs,
slightly different from the ones released, such as Blowing In The Wind. I didn't
make notes when Ernst played me this material, ages ago. The only thing I do
remember was Elvis making the comment, after Blowing In The Wind: "That's
sick...!" I guess he didn't approve of the anti war lyrics...?

Did anyone ever check if Gary Pepper, who supposedly had taped all Louisiana Hayride shows but destroyed these right after Elvis died, indeed did destroy such tapes?
If he did keep them, it does not automatically mean they can still be played.
I have cassette-tapes that don't play anymore and these are taped about 20 years ago.

Where did that story originated?!
Ive read all his Tankaster fanclub issues, and there's no mention
of him having recorded the Hayride shows...
He didn't destroy any of his other Elvis memorabilia, records and
what have you got, so why would he have destroyed the tapes?
All memorabilia from Gary's collection was recently sold thru
auction...

No idea where I heard it.
Supposedly after August 16, 1977 he decided to destroy the tapes to avoid anybody making money on them.
Might be another rumour.

A fact to reckon with: In his final years, Gary lived in poverty.
Wouldn't it have made sense he would have sold the tapes to
BMG, or the bootleggers to get some money in to pay for his
medical bills?!
File Pepper's Hayride shows under yet another bloody rumour.
Next to the 1955 pirate release of Uncle Pen. It's all bull.

What do you mean by "unreleased" ? Because, there are many songs in quite acceptable quality, and alternate takes that sound quite different in very good quality - that have still not been officially relelased.

Ditto, Luuk. I got mine via Bob Greenham, a collector who lived in Maidstone, Kent (maybe still does).

What was your source ? Bob also supplied me with August 1969 recordings within a couple of months of their being recorded. Those included the 'laughing version of AYLT' show, in poorish quality.

I heard those 20 seconds at Rex Martin. He asked me if I knew the guy he got it from. I did!
In Holland everybody knows eachother in the Elvis fan world.
Steve, do you know an Elvis fan called Sally Frost who worked and perhaps still works in your town but lived and perhaps still lives in Burton-on-Trent?

In short, Luuk, I'm sorry but, no, I don't know Sally. I know Rex quite well, and visited him a couple of years ago. He's still as fanatical as ever !

I had, on my computer, a high resolution sound file of the 'mean woman blues' outtake more than a year before it got released by Ernst on the LY FTD - and have to admit, that was quite a kick ;-)

From memory (it's now 12 years ago) I recall it sounded as bad as or even worse than the really poor quality Hayride acetates. It was basically unlistenable. But with all the technology we have these days, perhaps something could be done?
